Parents Without Partners
Capital Area Chapter 1349

Welcome to Parents Without Partners
Capital Area Chapter 1349

Single Parenting is one of the most challenging jobs today...

Where can single parents in the Raleigh area go to find friendship and support from other single parents?

The answer is the Capital Area chapter of Parents Without Partners.

Parents Without Partners, Inc. is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian, educational organization which is devoted to the welfare and interest of single parents and their children. Incorporated in 1957, it now has more than 350 chapters with a combined membership of approximately 49,600.

The Triangle has had local chapters since the 1970s; in the 1990s these chapters merged to become the Capital Area Parents Without Partners (Chapter #1349), which was incorporated as a non-profit in 2003.

Today, CAPWP has members from throughout the Triangle. Our members’ ages range from 21 to 60-plus with the largest group between 35 and 50 years old. Members’ children range from toddler to college-aged and beyond with a large percentage being elementary and “tweens.” As a group, 60-70% of members are women and 30-40% are men. Our members reside 40% in Cary/Apex, 30% in Raleigh/Wake Forest, 20% in Durham/Chapel Hill, and 10% in surrounding cities and towns. Regional Teams help to welcome members and initiate events in each locale.

The one thing EACH of the members share is that we are all single parents. Whether due to separation or divorce, never married, spousal death (widow, widower), or adoption—we’re all in it together. The hows and whys of your situation, including custody arrangements, are not a factor. CAPWP is not a dating service and Chapter and International policy prohibits alcohol consumption at events where minor children are present.

Our chapter has events for everyone...

Our members hold a variety of events throughout the year, such as:

  • dinner out at local restaurants
(some for families, some for parents only)
  • visits to local museums
  • movie nights
  • picnics and hikes
  • dances
  • discussions
  • parties
  • outings to various attractions and events

We encourage all eligible single parents to attend a new member orientation to learn more about PWP and our chapter. These orientation sessions are free and are held monthly. The orientation is required before you can join PWP.

To be eligible for membership, you must be a parent of one or more living children and be single by reason of death, divorce, separation, adoption, or never having been married. You are eligible for membership regardless of the ages of your children or their custodial status.

Dues are currently $45.00 per year for membership. After your membership is accepted, you will become a full-fledge chapter member.
